Mogherini: agreement must be in line with EU Acqui
Belgrade and Pristina will get European Union support for an agreement as long as it is in line with international and EU laws, High Representative Federica Mogherini said in Vienna on Friday.
“The agreement we are working on would be legally binding and would solve all outstanding issues,” she said adding that she believes everyone is commited to finalizing negotiations before the end of the mandate of this European Commission.
Mogherini refused to comment >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << on any specifics of the ongoing talks or any of the views expressed at an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers, saying that at informal meetings the participants are protected to give them a certain flexibility in addressing issues very frankly and directly.
“I would refrain from commenting on things that are not formally or substantially on the table yet and try to protect this stage of negotiations which is extremely delicate,” the EU high representative said.
“I can just tell you this - whatever outcome that is mutually agreed will get our support providing it is in line with international law and the EU acqui,” Mogherini told a media conference with Austria’s Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl.
She said she has seen very strong support for both the dialogue and the committment and engagement of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and his Kosovo counterpart Hashim Thaci. “I have seen the awareness of the difficulties which we have never hidden and which are still all ahead of us but also appreciation for the commitment and determination and for the possibility of finally solving one of the most, if not the most, complicated and painful tensions which we still have in Europe only 20 years after the conflict,” Mogherini added.
We are working seriously on something that is difficult and challenging but not impossible but we are not there yet, she said adding that the difficulties are clear.
