Workers in south Serbia end hunger strike
Forty workers in the Gumoplastika factory in the vicinity of Serbia’s southern town of Bujanovac ended five-day-long hunger strike after receiving promises that the Economy Ministry would help them get back their earnings, the Beta news agency reported.
A state secretary Dragan Stevanovic visited the strikers and promised the Ministry’s help as of next Monday.
He said that the talks were not easy, but that the workers agreed to end the hunger strike which forced >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << almost all of them to seek medical help.
He said the problem was in the fact that the state didn’t own anything to those workers, and that the company should pay the workers back.
Stevanovic said that the Ministry would bring the issue up with the company and added he hoped “this agony would end in the next few weeks.”
The company stopped productions months ago, but the workers did not leave the premises.
