Van Der Bellen: Serbia is important Austrian partner

Austrian President Alexander van Der Bellen said in Belgrade on Wednesday that Serbia was an important partner to his country and that the integration of the Western Balkans into the European Union was necessary, the Beta news agency reported.

Van Der Bellen, whose country currently holds the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU, is on a visit to Belgrade where he has met President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Ana Brnabic.

In a meeting with Brnabic, >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << van Der Bellen said that the Austrian companies in Serbia were satisfied with their business and added he would work on bringing more investors from home.

Brnabic said the Austrian support to Serbia on its way to the EU was significant and that one of her country's priorities was to empower the bilateral relations, adding she hoped that the forthcoming visit by the Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurtz later this year would contribute to that.

Brnabic joined van Der Bellen for the ceremony marking the Austrian National Day which took place in Belgrade’s City Hall.
