Thaci: Be united in joining Presevo Valley with Kosovo
Kosovo's President praised on Tuesday the leaders and citizens from Serbia’s southern region of Presevo Valley who supported unification of the three Valley’s municipalities with Kosovo as a part of border’s correction between Pristina and Belgrade, the KosSev website reported.
At the same time, Hashim Thaci called on Kosovo’s leaders to unite in “this common goal.”
“I once again thank >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << the leaders and citizens of (the municipalities) Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja who back our common goal to unite the Presevo Valley with Kosovo within the framework of border’s correction” between Belgrade and Pristina, Thaci wrote on his Facebook page.
He added that “this should unite us all, including the civil society and the opposition, regardless of political and ideological differences, regardless of the institutional position.”
Despite the international community’s unanimous stand that there would not be any changes of the borders in the Balkans, Thaci introduced the idea of border’s correction between Belgrade and Pristina to include the secession the Presevo Valley from Serbia, a move that Belgrade could hardly agree to.
Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic said he was in favour of separation with Albanians which easily translated in the partition of Kosovo, something that Pristina said would never have its consent.
Kosovo Serbs also said they would not mind the separation if they could have more than they had at the moment.
But, Kosovo’s Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj has recently said that “Kosovo's borders are drawn in war and that they can only change by war. Whoever believes that the borders change in some other way, is wrong.”
He is not the only one in Kosovo who seems not to be in line with President's ideas.
Ismet Beqiri, a member of the Parliament and the secretary of the Democratic League of Kosova (LDK), described Thaci’s call to the Albanian politicians to unite in supporting the idea about the unification as “hypocrisy, a part of the manipulation and deception, violation of the sovereignty and the constitutional order of our state.”
He said that Thaci used the feelings of the ethnic Albanians from the Valley by speaking about the border’s correction with Serbia.
“They (the Albanians) deserve support and a harder work against their discrimination. But what they don’t need is such manipulation with their sentiments, emotions and their rights,” he said.
“Luckily,” he added, “this ‘unification’ will probably never happen for the benefit of our country.”
