Serbia’s FM: We want strategic partnership with UAE
Belgrade wants a strategic partnership with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Ivica Dacic, Serbia’s Foreign Minister, has said on Thursday, adding that the two countries already have excellent political and economic relations, the Beta news agency reports.
Speaking in Abu Dhabi at a ceremony promoting Serbia’s first ambassador to the UAE, Dacic said that the embassy would “give new energy and incentive to further development of the bilateral relations.”
“The >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << UAE is Serbia’s most significant partner in the Gulf region, and we want to uplift our relations to a strategic partnership level,” he said, adding that Belgrade was the first to confirm the participation at the World Exhibition EXPO 2020 in Dubai and that that would be an opportunity to present the country's potentials.
According to a statement from his Ministry, Dacic said that UAE had recognised Serbia as its important partner in the Balkans and that many successful UAE companies had opened businesses in Serbia.
Also, he added, “not a small number of respected companies from Serbia also have successful businesses in the UAE.”
Dacic said that “over 6,000 people from Serbia live and work in the UAE, making it our largest diaspora in the Middle East.”
He announced the first session of the Joint Committee for UAE – Serbia cooperation for mid-November in Belgrade.
