Serbia’s Europe minister sees more chapters ahead

Serbian Minister for European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic said on Wednesday that she expects more chapters to be opened in the country’s pre-accession negotiations with the European Union.

Speaking during a meeting with the new German Ambassador to Serbia Thomas Schieb, Joksimovic said that the government has prepared negotiation positions for chapters 9 – financial services, 17 – economic and monetary policy and 18 – statistics and added that the positions for chapters >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << 2 – freedom of movement for workers and 4 – free movement of capital were sent to Brussels recently.

The minister said that official Belgrade attaches great importance to reforms aimed at improving living standards and building a modern state, adding that the government accepted all the recommendations of the Venice Commission to amend the constitution in the parts dealing with the judiciary.

Ambassador Schieb said that his government has noted Serbia’s progress on chapter 23 – judiciary and fundamental rights which he said is important for the opening of more chapters in the negotiations. He said Germany would continue supporting Serbia on its path to the EU.
