Serbian military works with East and West
Serbia is militarily neutral and works with countries from both East and West, Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin told Soldiers from nine countries taking part in the Platinum Wolf 2018 exercises in southern Serbia.
Serbian and foreign troops are based at the Jug military base outside the town of Bujanovac for the duration of the exercise which is being held for the fifth time.
Speaking to the 510 troops, officials and ambassadors at the base, Vulin said that Serbia cooperates >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << with everyone who can teach it something and added that the Army of Serbia (VS) is getting new weapons and equipment to meet all its needs.
“Engagement in multi-national operations is one of the most important missions of the VS and its contributions to peace operations confirm that the Serbian military can work with the most developed militaries in the world,” the minister said.
US Ambassador Kyle Scott said the exercise is useful for multi-national operations since the most important thing is for units from different militaries train together in realistic conditions. “The Jug base was built for multi-national operations. Cooperation with the VS runs deep and we have three times more joint exercises with Serbia than it has with any other partner,” he said.
The British Ambassador Dennis Keefe voiced satisfaction that British forces were back for a second year, adding that his country wants to develop cooperation with Serbia in this and other areas. “We are leaving the European Union, not Europe. We want to play an important role in Serbia and the Western Balkans in future,” he said.
