Serbian government secures funds for sick children

The Serbian government has decided to transfer 250,000 Euros to the accounts of a foundation collecting money for the treatment of children with serious medical problems, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on Monday following accusations that the government was not doing enough to help a child in need of cancer treatment.

Four-year-old Dusan Todorovic was transferred to Barcelona over the weekend after the Support Life Foundation (Podrzi Zivot) said it had managed to collect more than >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << 100,000 Euros needed to pay for his treatment.

The Health Care Ministry secured a medical team from a children’s hospital in Belgrade and a helicopter to move the child from Svilajnac to Belgrade following accusations that the health care system was not doing anything to help Dusan and five other children who are urgently in need of expensive medical treatment.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic reacted before the foundation announced that it had secured the money, saying that he “asked Health Care Minister Zlatibor Loncar and Brnabic to take funds from the budget reserve to help Dusan”. Foundation head actor Sergej Trifunovic published a tweet asking the president to pay the money the state allegedly allocated into the foundation’s account because there are five more children on its waiting list.

Health Care Minister Loncar caused outrage over the weekend when he said that the Todorovic family was late in filing a request for help in paying for their son’s treatment in Spain.

Brnabic said the decision to give the foundation the money was taken early on Monday, adding that the funds would be transferred during the day.
