Serbian FM Tells UN SC nothing positive in Kosovo
Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic told the UN Security Council on Wednesday that nothing positive had happened in Kosovo over the past few months.
“I regret to say that nothing fundamentally positive has happened since the previous UN Security Council session,” he said adding that the Community of Serb Municipalities has not been formed, >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << conditions have not been created for the return of 20,000 displaced persons and the special court chambers have not started working.
Dacic said that “harsh violations of UN Security Council resolutions had taken place, along with fresh provocation and incidents”, including the adopting of laws allowing the transformation of the Kosovo Security Forces into a full military. “I have to say that it's not clear how anyone can call this situation stable or perhaps a stable situation includes attacks on Serbs as something normal,” he said, adding that a bad atmosphere has been unnecessarily created between Belgrade and Pristina.
“We are committed to finding a mutually acceptable solution which can’t be reached without an agreement between Belgrade and Pristina and your support,” he said and appealed for help in the process.
UNMIK chief Zahir Tanin said that the implementation of agreements is crucial, and warned that tensions were raised by the laws to form a Kosovo military and the higher tariffs on goods from Serbia. “The actions aimed at prejudicing an agreement do not contribute to the reaching of a political compromise. Unilateral steps bring a constant potential to inflame the situation on the ground,” he said.
Kosovo’s Ambassador to the United States Vlora Chitaku told the Council that it’s resolution 1244 had been surpassed, adding that there was no longer any need for UNMIK and Council sessions devoted to Kosovo which she said do not help the dialogue or peace. “The dialogue it will never be about Kosovo’s right to be a state. The dialogue is about peace, reconciliation and mutual recognition,” she said.
