Serbian Agriculture Ministry bans meat imports from Hungary

The Serbian Agriculture Ministry banned the import of all meat and other animal products from Hungary because of a case of African swine flu (Pestis Suum Africana) in wild pigs in that country.

The Ministry warned consumers not to buy meat and other animal products in places which are not under the control of veterinary inspectors. Pig farmers and hunters were warned to prevent any contact with wild pigs.

The Serbian Ministry was informed by the European Union and the >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << World Organization for Animal Health OIE that Hungarian veterinary and food safety bodies had found a diseased animal.

A press release said that all necessary measures would be implemented, including full control of food of animal origin from Hungary, by the Agriculture Ministry, the border veterinary inspection, Customs Administration and Border Police.

Veterinary inspectors will also step up their control of every place where this food is sold.
