Serbia to get more aid from the US

The United States has pledged another 22 million Dollars in aid to improve competitiveness, the rule of law, media environment and the fight against corruption in Serbia.

Serbia’s Minister for European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic and US Ambassador in Belgrade Kyle Scott signed two agreements on the aid on Tuesday.

Joksimovic told the media that the money is not coming in the form of a loan and is linked to specific project across the country, including the development >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << of SMEs and promoting local development. Political relations between Belgrade and Washington have seen their ups and downs but the United States has been helping the reforms in Serbia through development cooperation for years and is one of Serbia’s most important partners on its path to the European Union, the minister said.

“Our aid means partnership. We are working with the Serbian government and civil society and this aid is more proof of our support to Serbia in becoming a member of the EU and a democratic and prosperous country,” Ambassador Scott said. Scott put up a map showing more than 1,850 places in Serbia where the US has helped rebuild schools, pave roads and protect cultural sites. US aid has come to the local communities in all of Serbia, he said.
