Serbia ready to tackle cyber security challenges

The Serbian authorities are ready to tackle the cyber security challenges that digitalization brings with it, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic told a security conference in Belgrade on Thursday.

“Technology evolves quickly and we have to develop our response to threats,” she said, adding that Serbia has established international cooperation to combat cyber crime. “We react to threats quickly, efficiently and together,” Brnabic said.

The prime minister said that schools >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << are teaching children how to protect themselves as part of prevention measures and added that the Internal Affairs Ministry needs to help keep all of society safe.

Internal Affairs Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said that Serbia is efficiently combating high-tech and all other forms of crime in which computers are used. He said criminal charges had been filed by the police high-tech department against 82 people this year. “Ministry personnel took part in several large-scale operations against high-tech crime with international partners,” he said.

“The ministry has specially trained police officers equipped with the latest equipment and software but I still feel that we need all available partners in the international community, private sector, civil society for this struggle because that is the only way that we will improve the cyber security of all citizens of Serbia,” he said.

The conference was attended by European Commissioner for Migrations and Internal Affairs Dimitris Avramopoulos who said that cyber security is a very urgent and important issue for democracies, elections and the overall safety of society. “Our goal is to remove potential threats and strengthen the capacities of the European Union,” the commissioner said.
