Serbia expects support, France willing to give it
Serbia expects support from France on its road to the European Union and Paris is prepared to help Belgrade solve sensitive issues along the way, the Serbian and French Presidents, Aleksandar Vucic and Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday.
Speaking after their meeting, Macron warned that Serbia might not join the EU by 2025 if the Union is not reformed. “If that does not happen by 2025 we should have no illusions. If the reforms of the EU are implemented before then, so much the better,” >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << he said, adding that it would not be a good thing if the EU, which he said is not functioning properly, were to be expanded.
Macron said the stability of the Balkans is necessary for common security.
Vucic said that they were in agreement on key issues, primarily the need to preserve the peace and stability of the region and find common solutions.
“Macron gave us his support in finding a compromise solution with the Kosovo Albanians to secure a lasting peace,” he said.
Vucic and Macron met a day before the Serbian President is due to meet with his Kosovo counterpart Hashim Thaci and EU High Representative Federica Mogherini in Brussels.
