Serbia: Whistleblower says minister acted under pressure
The former manager of the Emergency Medical Support, Borko Josifovski, said that he was offered the job of the head of the anti-corruption body within the Health Ministry under "public pressure."
Josifovski told the daily Danas that he will soon reply to the offer made to him by Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar but also that the anti-corruption team within the Ministry has so far been pretending to be fighting corruption.
Josifovski, who revealed the systematic cooperation >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << between certain emergency teams and undertaker firms, believes that what he pointed out in this case 13 years ago is still going on as none of the perpetrators has faced justice yet.
"The head of the Emergency Medical Support is a man who has actively worked on mounting a case against me in order for me to be laid off and the head of the anti-corruption team in the Health Ministry is a former police inspector who fabricated evidence in order to close the case and hide the affair," Josifovski said.
The Pistaljka (Whistleblow) portal said that Josifovski has in 2006 revealed that certain doctors are "competing to get to a dying patient first and then rarely applying reanimation while recommending undertaker firms to the patient’s family."
After revealing this, Josifovski was laid off by the then Health Minister Tomica Milosavljevic.
Josifovski left the country in 2007 because of mobbing and threats but returned after a few years.
The High Court in Belgrade recently ruled that several ministries and other state institutions had harmed Josifovski and have discriminated him because he blew the whistle on this case.
