Serbia Ombudsman warns of illegal waste dumps
Illegal waste dumps are a serious problem in Serbia, Ombudsman Zoran Pasalic said on Monday.
Speaking on World Environment Day, Pasalic said that problem demands a solution for existing illegal waste dumps and the construction of regional waste centres with recycling facilities.
The right to a health environment is not getting enough attention, the Ombudsman said, adding that the failure to implement regulations on the use of plastic is resulting in the uncontrolled use >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << and disposal of plastic bags. "This requires a proactive attitude by the authorities to reduce the use of plastics and their inadequate disposal,” Pasalic said.
He warned that the wanted level of environmental protection can’t be reached because of a lack of money, administrative capacities and an information system.
