Russia to import food from Serbia

Russia’s leading retail chains Magnit, Dixy and Lenta agreed to import food from Serbia, being most interested in fresh and frozen fruit and vegetables and meat products, Serbia’s Chamber of Commerce said on Tuesday.

The agreement was reached at the WorldFood Moscow international fair held from September 17-20 with 13 Serbia’s companies taking part among 1,600 other participants from 62 countries.

Belgrade is intensively developing economic relations with Russia and China, the two most powerful states that had not recognised the independence of Kosovo, Serbia's former southern province which declared independence in 2008.

Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic is on a three-day visit to Beijing where the two sides signed a number of contracts, including a billion-dollar Chinese investment in a car tire factory in Serbia's northern province of Vojvodina.
