Pope Francis should come to Serbia, Belgrade FM says

Only a day after the Serb Orthodox Church (SPC) Patriarch said it was still not time for the head of the Roman Catholic Church to visit Serbia, the country Foreign Minister said Pope Francis should come.

Ivica Dacic told the Belgrade daily Politika on Wednesday that there would be no better Pope for Serbia and that he believed that the current head of the Roman Catholic Church should visit the country.

“There will hardly be any future Pope who would have more understanding >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << for Serbia as Pope Francis has,” Dacic said.

He added it was crucial for Belgrade that the Vatican maintained its stand not to recognise Pristina’s independence, but that it also should be Serbia’s ally in protecting its Christian values in Kosovo.

The Patriarch Irinej said on Tuesday that the majority of the Serbs were against Pope's visit because of what had happened in the past.
