Moscow condemns international forces reaction in Kosovo
Russia’s Foreign Ministry condemned on Monday “a passive behaviour of the international forces in Kosovo” which did not take any action against “irresponsible intrusion of Pristina’s special police in the Serb parts of Kosovo,” the Beta news agency reported.
“A demonstrative incursion by the Kosovo special police into the northern area with Serb >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << population in spite of the agreements between Belgrade and Pristina is a provocation aiming at intimidating the Kosovo Serbs and putting pressure on Serbia,” the Ministry’s statement said.
It adds that the international forces in Kosovo are obliged by the United Nations mandate to secure peace and safety in Kosovo.
The statement said that “such an irresponsible behaviour of the Kosovo authorities could have caused new bloodshed there and the destabilisation of the Balkans as a whole. Pristina’s continuous efforts to take control of the parts of Kosovo with Serb majority by force can ignite interethnic hatred and make senseless the longtime international community’s efforts to find a post-conflict solution to the problem.”
The EU called on calm and restraint from all sides, following Kosovo’s President Hashim Thaci unexpected visit to the northern area on Saturday escorted by many police officers, reportedly from the ROSU elite unit.
KFOR first said it was not informed about the visit and later denied the ROSU's presence and reports on mistreatment of some Serbs during Thaci's visit.
Serbia's President is in Moscow for Thursday's meeting with his host Russia's President Vladimir Putin. The two are to discuss the regional situation among other issues.
"We have significant political problems and many issues with an uncertain outcome in case of violation of peace and stability,” Vucic told reporters in Moscow on Monday.
