Minister: We continue the fight against illegal drugs

The fight against illegal drugs and drug dealers in Serbia is continuing and not a single criminal can be relaxed, Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic told the public broadcaster, RTS, on Sunday, as he announced new state measures targeting drug trafficking.

The Minister said that the security level in schools has been raised and that it now involves other security agencies as well.

"For a year already we are working on prevention in schools. Since September last year, >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << we had a series of lectures for fourth and sixth graders about the fight against violence, drugs, alcoholism, behaviour in extraordinary situations, traffic security and cybersecurity," Stefanovic said, adding that his Ministry has now agreed with the Education Ministry to start those classes already in the first grade.

"From September this year we will have classes for the first, fourth and sixth graders, which will, of course, be adapted to the age of the children," the Minister said.

Police officers will talk to the students about the dangers and risks of drug abuse, he said.

"We want them to hear this directly from the people who work on decreasing this type of crime, together with the school's police officers who patrol schoolyards, but it is also very important for other institutions to get involved," he said.
