Media freedom in Serbia is not endangered, President says

In a letter to the Brussels-based EUobserver website, President Aleksandar rejected the assertions in an article about the state of media in Serbia the site published on November 2.

"I will try - without any passion - to make a rational and decent response to what was written in an opinion piece full of accusations against Serbia in EUobserver,” Vucic wrote.

He added that as the president of Serbia “I have rarely reacted on media attacks against the country I lead, >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << because I have always, it seems to me, understood well that each different opinion and criticism serve for changing things quickly in our country, for improving ourselves, and for providing normal functioning and full respect for democratic norms and laws.”

Belgrade has been under increasing pressure to improve the media situation both from home and abroad.
