Lawyers’ refute Serbian Justice Ministry claim
Seven lawyers’ organizations have refuted claims by the Serbian Justice Ministry that the Venice Commission passed a positive assessment of the latest version of amendments to the constitution.
The Justice Ministry said on its web site on Wednesday that the Commission “concluded that the latest version of the amendments, drawn up after changes in line with comments by experts, is in harmony with Venice Commission recommendations”.
Thursday’s joint statement said >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << that the ministry posted memorandum from the Venice Commission Secretariat which included “a summary conclusion” on the draft amendments which were not a topic at the latest regular commission session.
The statement by the lawyers’ organizations said that the memorandum showed that ministry statement was wrong. The lawyers’ organizations called the ministry to send the latest draft to the Venice Commission and called the Commission to make a statement about the false claims.
