Kosovo not a condition for EU, PM Brnabic says
Kosovo never was and never will be a condition for Serbia’s membership in the European Union, Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on Friday adding that the stability of the region requires a compromise solution.
Speaking at the Vienna Economic Forum in the Bulgarian capital Sofia a day after the EU-Western Balkans Summit, Brnabic said that setting recognition of Kosovo as a condition is impossible since “five >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << EU member states have not recognized it and are saying they never will”.
“It never was a condition and I guarantee that it never will be a condition but a normalization of [Belgrade-Pristina] relations is needed,” the Serbian Prime Minister said. Serbia cannot be expected to “simply recognize the independence of Kosovo”, she said.
“Serbia is ready for a compromise, Serbia is constantly calling for a compromise but Pristina has not stepped out if its comfort zone. They are calling for a final solution, which is recognition, and that will never happen,” Brnabic added.
Several solutions have been table but Pristina has not responded to any of them, the Prime Minister said.
