Known for cruelty: The trial started for “Bloody Azra” for war crimes over Serbs
The trial has started in Bosnia and Herzegovina against Azra Basic for war crimes against Serbs, committed in 1992 in Derventa.
The State Prosecution filed an indictment on 16 December that Basic, as members of the HVO in Derventa, has acted contrary to the provisions of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in time of war.

The indictment alleges that Basic murdered a civilian in extremely brutal way, a man of Serbian nationality, who was lying on the floor after he was severely beaten up and abused.

The accused is charged that she brutally tortured and abused on several occasions a number of people of Serbian nationality who were detained at the Army Club in Derventa, causing them serious physical and mental injuries, some of which are still feeling the effects.
The prosecution will try to prove the allegations in the indictment by calling 32 witnesses and attaching more than 80 items of evidence, reports the Independent newspaper.
Basic, which the Serbian inmates nicknamed "Azra two knives", was recently extradited from the US to the Bosnia and Herzegovina and has been held in custody ever since.
