Iran restores visa regime for Serbian nationals

Iran has scrapped visa-free entry for Serbian nationals, days after the Western Balkan country reintroduced visas for Iranians, the Tehran Times reported on its web site on Thursday.

The English-language newspaper quoted a Foreign Ministry statement which said that this was a reciprocal decision following Serbia’s recent suspension of visa-free travel to the country waiver for Iranian citizens.

The daily recalled that Serbia abolished visas for Iranian nationals in >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << August 2017 and announced on October 10, 2018 that it was reinstating visa requirements because of concerns that some Iranian nationals were using the opportunity to get to European Union member states. It said that more than 15,000 Iranians travelled to Serbia without visas.

The Belgrade-based Beta news agency quoted the Exyuaviation portal which said Iran Air is planning to discontinue direct flights between Tehran and Belgrade at the end of October. Iran Air resumed direct flights to Belgrade after a break of 27 years, flying to Serbia twice a week.
