Hungary urges Serbia to open seven chapters in December
Budapest invited Belgrade to open all chapters in the accession talks with the European Union which it was ready for, the Beta news agency reported on Thursday.
Hungary’s Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó sad that Serbia’s Minister for European Integrations Jadranka Joksimovic told him Belgrade was ready to open seven chapters.
After meeting Joksimovic Szijjártó said Belgrade could open them at the inter-governmental conference in December, the Hungarian news >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << agency MTI reported.
That would mean that Serbia would have 21 out of 35 chapters opened by the end of the year.
Szijjártsaid Budapest hoped that Serbia would open the remaining 14 chapters during the Romanian EU rotating presidency which would succeed Austria in January next year.
Both Budapest and Bucharest support the EU enlargement to Western Balkans.
Joksimovic, however, said that Belgrade could hope to open three to four chapters by the end of 2018, having in mind the current atmosphere in the EU which did not incline to the enlargement.
