Germany's Tönnies could loose land leased in Serbia

The land that the German meat producer Tönnies wants to lease for farms will be offered to others if construction does not start this year, Belgrade daily newspaper Politika says on Thursday.

  Serbian Agriculture Minister Branislav Nedimovic confirmed that the land would not be left to foster. “It will all be leased if the terms of the contract are not met. “That means that this is an investment of 100 million Euro and 250 new jobs,” the minister said.

The German meat producer was given permits to lease land in the municipalities of Kikinda and Zrenjanin in Vojvodina and is waiting for permits for five more sites but has not yet leased the land to start making farms, Politika said.
