Exhibition of Roman artefacts opens in Belgrade
The Serbian Academy of Arts and Science (SANU) is hosting an exhibition of Roman artefacts collected across the country in its gallery.
The exhibition titled Roman Limes and cities in Serbia was opened on Wednesday and will remain in place till September 10 over the next month showing artefacts, including pottery, clothing and weapons. dating from the 1st to the 5th century.
The exhibition includes artists’ depictions of the Roman military border outposts, settlements >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << and fortificatoins in places like Viminacium (modern day Kostolac), Singidunum (Belgrade) and Sirmium (Sremska Mitrovica), all three of which have archaeological sites dating to the Roman period.
Speaking at the opening, Education Minister Mladen Sarcevic said the exhibition is an introduction to an international gathering of experts on Roman heritage in September.
