EU aid to help reduce unemployment in Serbia
The European Union will provide financial aid for two projects aimed at helping reduce unemployment in Serbia, Labour Minister Zoran Djordjevic and EU Delegation chief Sem Fabrizi announced on Friday.
The EU will secure 6.3 million Euros for two reform projects to help improve active employment policies, especially for peopl who have a hard time getting jobs, Fabrizi told reporters, adding that the money will be managed by Serbian institutions as a sign of trust by >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << the EU.
“The Serbian economy is growing and unemployment is dropping but there is a lot of room to continue that trend,” he told a presentation of the two EU projects of help increase the capacities of the National Employment Service and provide support for employment policy.
“Serbia has a lot of unemployed people and others who lack the skills and knowledge to find work, primarily people with handicaps,” Fabrizi said.
Minister Djordjevic said the projects will focus on reducing unemployment in order to reduce poverty. “We are giving everybody equal rights,” he said.
“Unemployment in Serbia is now at a minimum, at around 12 percent and it was as high as 26 percent. I believe that unemployment will drop this year and next with these added measures and projects,” the minister said.
