Christmas lights being put up early in Belgrade
Social network users have published pictures of communal services crews putting up Cristmas and new year lighting in Belgrade just like they did last year when a scandal broke out over the cost of the lighting.
Last year’s decorations were put up in central areas of the Serbian capital late in September and remained there for the next six months.
Asked about the decorations, then Belgrade Mayor Sinisa Mali said he did not understand why new year decorations had to be >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << put up on December 25 and taken down 10 days later. “Belgrade is a European metropolis and we have to be competitive. People decide where they want to go for the new year in June, July, not on December 25,” he said at the time.
The Belgrade city authorities under Mayor Mali were heavily criticised over the price paid to the company supplying the lighting and the price paid for an artificial Christmas tree, leading Mali to cancel one of the contracts for the decorations.
