Chief of General Staff: Army reserve force decreases

Currently, Serbia has a sufficient number of active soldiers and military personnel, but the number of reserve forces is falling over time, Chief of the General Staff of Serbia’s Army, Lieutenant-General Milan Mojsilovic said.

"We must take into consideration that the number of reserve forces decreases over time. If we don’t find a way to train more of our citizens to defend our country, we’ll find our selves in a situation where won’t have enough trained units in our reserve >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << forces," Mojsilovic told Politika daily.

Asked whether the introduction of a compulsory military service could make the military service into "what it once was," Mojsilovic said that the question is not whether someone is for or against military service, but the issue here is the need to find a model for the long-term functioning of the army.

He recalled that Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic said in August that the country is considering the introduction of a compulsory three or six-month military service for men from 2020 or 2021.
