Cardiovascular ailments number one killer in Serbia

Cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death in Serbia, the country’s Public Health Institute said on Thursday adding that 51.7 percent of deaths are related to those health problems.

The Institute issued its press release on diseases of the heart and blood vessels on World No Tobacco Day which is devoted to tobacco and cardiovascular diseases this year under the slogan Tobacco Breaks Hearts.

It said that 28 percent of the population of Europe are smokers and that 34.7 percent of Serbian citizens are smokers, with 39 percent of non-smokers exposed to secondary smoke in the workplace, 62 in their homes and 66 in restaurants and cafes.
