Brnabic: Serbia's "timeless" friendship with China important
Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said, addressing the participants of the 16+1 Summit in Sofia, that the “timeless and steel” friendship with China is extremely important for Serbia. She thanked Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang for his personal support within the 16 +1 Mechanism and the Chinese Global Initiative "Belt and Road."
"Serbia is committed to actively participating in these initiatives that are important for our country and the whole region and have contributed >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << to better integration and strengthening of cooperation," Brnabic said, adding that, in addition to infrastructure projects, projects in the field of energy, economy and culture are also significant.
The summit was opened by prime ministers of China and Bulgaria, Li Keqiang and Boyko Borissov.
"The modernization of the Belgrade-Budapest railroad, jointly implemented by Serbia, Hungary and China, which is the first cross-border project within this cooperation mechanism, is crucial for infrastructure connectivity," Brnabic concluded.
According to her, the most important thing today was the signing of the Commercial Agreement on Modernization and Reconstruction of the Hungarian-Serbian Railway Connection on the section Novi Sad-Subotica. The contract is worth EUR 943 million, and it fully covers the financing and execution of works on the project. The funds were provided from "favourable loans."
Commenting on the allegations that projects with China are not the most favourable, Brnabic said that these allegations were not true.
"Simply put, the facts deny this claim. These are loans at very favourable terms, with grace periods ranging between five and seven years and interest rates of some two percent," the Prime Minister said.
She stressed that all contracts were completely transparent.
“That is our strategic partnership with China. It brings us and Serbia a number of other advantages. Our partnership brought us Smederevo Foundry and the Hestil company, as well as the preservation of 5,000 jobs,” Brnabic said.
