Balkan leaders discuss cooperation in Thessaloniki
The leaders of four Balkan countries met in Thessaloniki on Wednesday to discuss cooperation in energy, traffic, infrastructure and security.
The Prime Ministers of European Union member states Bulgaria, Greece and Romania, Boyko Borisov, Alexis Tsipras and Viorika Dancila told President Aleksandar Vucic that they want to see Serbia in the EU.
“We underscored the importance of EU membership for the entire Western Balkans, especially for Serbia. We believe that Serbia >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << is a fundamental member of the European community,” Greek Prime Minister Tsipras said.
His words were echoed by Romania’s Dancila who said Serbia will have her country’s “full support to become a member of the European family as soon as possible” and by Borisov who said that his country “treats Serbia like an EU member, supporting it in resolving the emotional question of Kosovo”.
President Vucic expressed satisfaction with the meeting, among other things because a number of joint energy and infrastructure projects had been agreed. “Greece and Bulgaria proposed something we never had before. Joint taxes and duties which are of concern to the Danube Commission and road traffic. We feel that this can greatly benefit our four countries,” Vucic said.
The next meeting of the four countries’ leaders is scheduled to be held in Belgrade later this year.
