Serbia's Army officier cleared of alleged attack

A prosecutors' office cleared a Serbia’s Army Captain suspected of attacking the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) activists during the February election campaign, a daily reported on Friday.

The Belgrade Prosecutor’s Office did not indict Cap. Milan Vuksic for violent behaviour and light bodily harm he allegedly inflicted on the >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << SNS activists who were on door-to-door campaign collecting the so-called safe votes.

The Office heard that the activists came to Vuksic’s family home with the list of all its members as safe SNS’ voters.

That practice has been widely reported as a part of the SNS campaign to secure as many votes as possible by obliging the state enterprises' and institutions’ employees to get their families and friends to vote for the SNS.

Belgrade Danas daily reported that although he was cleared of charges, Vuksic was still subjected to mobbing in the Army.

A source told Danas that the captain was to be promoted into the rank of a major in April, but that the Army Chief-of-Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic postponed the decision after Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin said he wanted to look into the case.
