Serbian president’s party wins local election
The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) has won the local elections in the town of Majdanpek, the municipal election commission said on Monday.
President Aleksandar Vucic’s SNS declared victory on Sunday night following the elections for councillors in the municipal assembly. Vucic visited the Majdanpek earlier last week in support of his party’s local branch prior to the elections.

Majdanpek has a total of 17,325 registered voters and 10,027 turned out for the local elections. Seats on the municipal assembly were also won by the Dveri Movement and the coalition formed by the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and United Serbia (JS).
The SNS will have 24 of the total of 31 seats on the assembly, Dveri will have 4 and the SPS-JS coalition will have 3 seats. The three parties have 60 days to form the new municipal assembly.
