Serbia is ruined, no one to admit, an editor
Serbia sometimes turns into a reality show, Milan Culibrk, the editor-in-chief of the NIN Belgrade weekly, said on Thursday, adding that official data and 10 economic parameters showed the country as the worst in the region.
Speaking to N1 television, Culibrk said that Serbia economically ranked the last of eight regional countries, adding: “We are ruined and no one admits that.”
He said that the inflation of three percent was great for Serbia, but still the highest >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << in the region.
“Last year’s average salary was 395 Euros with only Macedonia bellow that... We are bragging about 400 million Euros more foreign investments in Serbia compared to all other regional countries put together, and it is true, but a bigger picture, even with more state’s investment in infrastructure, shows we and Bosnia, are lagging behind the others in the region,” Culkibrk said.
Speaking about politics, he said that by “watching what is going on, I sometimes think that the parliament turns itself into a reality show,” adding it was even worse because the European Council’s Group for fighting corruption directly warned Serbia about the transparency of the parliament work.
Culibrk referred to the ruling coalition MPs’ practise to submit hundreds of amendments, usually in the same wording, to the government’s proposed laws, thus substantially shortening the time for the opposition’s remarks.
“We expect a positive report by the Group in October… but would that practice take Serbia out of the list of criticised countries,” he said.
