Serbian opposition warns against re-drawing of borders
Serbian opposition leaders warned on Wednesday that a separation of the two sides in Kosovo means a re-drawing of the borders of Serbia.
“Demarcation means a willing re-drawing of the borders of Serbia and a permanent loss of state territory, not just Kosovo but also Presevo. That means we will be separated from the Decane monastery and the seat of the Patriarch in Pec and many other things which are the foundation >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << of our national identity,” Vuk Jeremic told a meeting in Kraljevo organized by the Alliance for Serbia.
That means Kosovo’s independence will be recognized and signed by Serbia for the first time, he said and warned that this creates a dangerous precedent. He added that if Serbia signs a demarcation agreement, Kosovo will become a member of the UN. “And then there’s no going back,” Jeremic said.
Opposition leader Borko Stefanovic said that nothing was signed while he headed the government negotiation team for Kosovo.
“We left behind agreements which were not ideal. Some were implemented others were not but they all dealt with everyday lives, not sovereignty and the status of Kosovo. This government hurried to discuss status and then they wanted to cover their mistakes by making accusations against others,” he said.
