SPC priest warns about possibly staged incident in Kosovo
An information is circulating around Kosovo about staging an incident in the north, which could trigger reactions on both sides and create a de facto division of territory, a Serb Orthodox Church (SPC) Visoki Decani monastery elder Sava Janjic wrote on his Facebook profile, asking for an official denial from both Belgrade and Pristina.
“KFOR ( >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << Kosovo force) claims it is determined to prevent violence, but the people are worried. Political leaders on both sides, both in Belgrade and in Pristina, must strongly deny these claims about a supposed staged territorial division (which would be achieved) through violence, and renew their commitment to peaceful dialogue, however long it may last. If they fail to do this, they will be held morally and politically accountable,” Janjic wrote on his Facebook profile.
He added it was extremely important that ”these disturbing news are denied from all sides,” and reiterated the importance of a peaceful dialogue.
“I sincerely hope that the international community, especially United States and the EU, will prevent irresponsible individuals and groups from provoking violence where innocent people, but also valuable historic and cultural monuments would be harmed, as had already happened during the 2004 riots in Kosovo. This would be a terrible step backwards for both Kosovo and the region. Dialogue must return to guaranteeing safety for all people, and respect for human rights", Janjic wrote.
