Protest prevents visit by Kosovo Serbs

Albanian residents of Djakovica protested against an announced by displaced Serbs to that Kosovo town on Tuesday, forcing the Kosovo Serbs to cancel their plans to celebrate the Assumption of Mary according to the Julian calendar which the Serbian Orthodox Church observes.

The protesters carried banners saying No Peace Without Justice and Blood of Albanian Children Killed by Serbia. The protest organizers included an association of mothers which called Kosovo President >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << Hashim Thaci to prevent the visit by the displace Serbs.

Visoki Decani monastery Abbot Sava Janjic said on his Twitter account that the protest gathering was incident-free after the Serb refugees decided to cancel their visit to their home town.

The area around the Orthodox Church in Djakovica was secured by a strong police presence. Belgrade newspapers reported that this is the first time in 19 years that Serb refugees have been prevented from celebrating the religious holiday in the town’s church and nearby monastery.
