Kosovo flag at Notre Dame based on government list

A spokesman for the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris said on Monday that the flag of Kosovo is flying in front of that church because officials from Pristina have been invited to next Sunday’s commemoration to mark the end of World War 1, the Beta news agency reported quoting an AFP report.

An unnamed Notre Dame de Paris spokesperson said the decision on which flags to raise was taken based on a list of invited officials >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << drawn up by the French government.

“Notre Dame takes no stand and is not involved in diplomacy,” the spokesperson said.

A large number of heads of state and government have been invited to Paris for the Armistice Day anniversary, including Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo President Hashim Thaci.

Kosovo Ambassador in Paris Qendrim Gashi reported that the flag was flying in front of the cathedral on his Twitter account over the weekend. He posted a photograph of the flags and wrote that the flag of Kosovo is flying at Notre Dame for the first time.

His Tweet drew dissatisfaction from Belgrade where Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic reacted saying that the flying of the flag of Kosovo at Notre Dame is “a huge scandal”, adding that the Serbian authorities could not prevent it.
