Carl Bildt against changes to Serbia-Kosovo border
Changes of the Kosovo-Serbia border could endanger regional stability, according to former Swedish PM and ex-High Representative in Bosnia, Carl Bildt.
Changing the border could "reopen the debate over the future of Bosnia," Bildt wrote in an article for the Washington Post, adding that "there is the even more difficult and dangerous issue of Macedonia, where Albanians are a substantial part of the population."

Bildt wrote that should Albanian areas start being concentrated into a single territorial unit through territorial swaps, "there will certainly be those asking why this should not apply to Macedonia as well."
He described such a possibility as "playing with fire."
The only way toward regional stability, he wrote, is a gradual integration of Serbia and Albania into the EU and NATO based on existing borders, adding that any further manipulation of those borders and territorial divisions are dangerous now as they were in the early 1990’s.
He pointed out that the policy of the EU and the US on the matter has been clear.
"The borders that were there in old Yugoslavia should remain in place, and solutions should be sought within them. To further Balkanize the Balkans is to open the region up for further conflict and bloodshed," he wrote in a Washington Post article.
