Adem Demaci, dubbed Kosovo’s Mandela, dies at 82

Adem Demaci, the most famous Kosovo Albanian spiritual and political leader and a long-time political prisoner, died at the age of 82, agencies reported.

Pristina’s authorities declared three-day national mourning for the man who spent 28 years as a political prisoner in the Yugoslav jails for advocating Kosovo’s independence.

Demaci was imprisoned during the rule of the Yugoslav communist leader Josip Broz Tito three times and was set free in 1990, ten years after Tito died.
