Serbian ruling party officials in war of words
The war of words over what Serbian politicians see as an incident with US Ambassador Kyle Scott got another chapter on Monday when Serbian deputy Prime Minister Zoran Mihajlovic responded to criticism from parliament speaker Maja Gojkovic.
Gojkovic lashed out earlier at Mihajlovic for what she said was the minister’s failure to censor US Ambassador Kyle Scott at a meeting in the Serbian government headquarters when he said that Kosovo was an independent and sovereign country. >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << Gojkovic accused Mihajlovic of “standing there like Ikebana”.
Both women are ranking officials of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
Mihajlovic responded saying that “it’s not easy when someone counts your patriotic blood cells in a situation when you are doing the best you can for your country”, adding that she has made her views clear just like everyone else that Kosovo’s independence won’t be recognized.
“I am certain that Gojkovic knows this full well. I don’t like the fact that various situations are being used for attacks within the SNS and I do not want to be part of talks like that. My message to everyone is that when speaking about Kosovo we should turn to the people who brought us to this situation in 2008 when decisions about Kosovo were transferred from the UN to the European Union and that includes some parties and individuals starting with (former Foreign Minister Vuk) Jeremic and others who were very close to the SNS presidency member (Gojkovic),” Mihajlovic said.
