Pristina to get EU candidate status, Kosovo President

Kosovo’s President Hashim Thaci said Pristina should get a candidate status for the EU membership, following the EC report on Kosovo progress in 2017 published on Tuesday.

The president said Kosovo proved its commitment to reforms, regional cooperation, and the dialogue on normalisation of relations with Belgrade.

“Kosovo has a >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << need to have a straightforward European path and to be equally treated as other countries of the Western Balkans,” Thaci said.

He added that it did not matter how complicated it could be for the EU, “because without a clear perspective everything else could have additional consequences not only for Kosovo but for the region as a whole,” Thaci said.

The head of the EU office in Pristina, Natalia Apostolova said Kosovo achieved a small improvement in certain areas, but not in the fields of education, environment and climate changes.

She added that the EC was upset with the continuation of political influence in public administration and wide spread corruption.
