Maas: EU has to offer perspective to Western Balkans
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas told the Bundestag that the European Union must offer the Western Balkans a true European perspective or they will turn to other countries which do not share European values.
Building a strong and sovereign Europe should be a top priority, he said. “The answer to American First, Russia First or China First is not Europe First but United Europe,” he told MPs.
Maas said that development in the Western Balkans are a topical issue in >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << European foreign policy, adding that he agrees that the countries of the region should create conditions for their European perspective. “It is equally important for us to offer those countries a reliable European perspective or they will turn to other countries, like China, which do not share our values or those of the EU,” he is quoted as saying by the Federal Foreign Ministry.
“That is why it is important for us to remain consistent and reliable towards the countries of the Western Balkans,” Maas said.
