Kosovo’s Thaci: Belgrade recognition & UN membership next
Hashim Thaci, Kosovo’s President said on Wednesday that in a meeting with the EU Frederica Mogherini and his Serbia’s counterpart Aleksandar Vucic the parties agreed to start a final phase of Belgrade – Pristina dialogue soon.
He said that the three talked about “the possibilities of the concrete and constructive steps” to normalisation of the relations between Belgrade and Pristina, Radio Free Europe (RFE) reported.
Thaci said that the end >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << of the dialogue would enable Serbia’s recognition of Pristina independence and Kosovo’s membership to the United Nations.
“We have agreed that the final stage of the dialogue begins in near future with Mogherini’s mediation and the support of the US and other countries that want to help,” Thaci said following the meeting in Sofia, ahead of the EU – Western Balkans Summit’s opening on Thursday.
He added that it was “a new momentum which needs a mobilisation of all political forces and energy, civil society and media in Kosovo… This will be a very responsible process.”
“The process won’t be at all an easy one, neither forKosovo, nor for Serbia. We are aware that no one will get a hundred percent, but what is certain is that by achieving this legally binding agreement, both Kosovo and Serbia will become a part of the European family,” Thaci was quoted as saying.
