EU ambassador: Belgrade-Pristina talks at important stage
The Belgrade-Pristina talks on normalizing relations are at an important stage and are going well even though it seemed they would be stalled, European Delegation chief in Serbia Sem Fabrizi said on Friday.
Speaking for the Sto Plus local radio in the southwestern Serbian city of Novi Pazar, Fabrizi said both sides are willing to negotiate but refused to disclose details of the talks in Brussels on Sunday.
“The format of the Brussels negotiations is clear and it is >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << defined by the people taking part in it. At present, neither Belgrade nor Pristina have launched any initiative to change it and move it out of Brussels. I think the format of the negotiations is being granted unnecessary importance instead of focusing on the progress the two sides have achieve,” Fabrizi said.
According to a statement by the European External Action Service (EEAS), the Presidents of Serbia and Kosovo, Aleksandar Vucic and Hashim Tachi are scheduled to meet in Brussels on June 24 to continue the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue under EU auspices.
The EU ambassador said there was no mention of any international gathering to resolve the issue nor were there any demands for EU member states to join in the dialogue.
“It’s clear that a legally binding agreement has to be reached and implemented before Serbia joins the EU. The normalization of relations with Pristina is one of the main elements in the process and the Strategy for the Western Balkans clearly says that bilateral disputes must be resolved before any state can join the EU,” Fabrizi said.
