Jednojajčani blizanci Hugo i Ros Tarner odlučili su da izvedu mali eksperiment - da se neko vreme hrane sasvim različito, pa da vide šta će da se dogodi. Hugo je 12 nedelja jeo samo vegansku hranu, dok se Ros držao ishrane bogate mesom, a sve vreme ih je pratio tim naučnika.

Obojica su za to vreme trenirali u teretani pet do šest puta nedeljno, a pazili su i kad su pripremali obroke - tako da unose skoro isto kalorija. Na kraju eksperimenta njihovo fizičko stanje se bitno razlikovalo u odnosu na ono s početka.
Pre nego što je izbacio meso iz ishrane, Hugo je imao 83,9 kilograma i 13 odsto masnoće u telu. Na kraju eksperimenta imao je 82,1 kilogram, masnoća se smanjila na 12 odsto, a pao mu je i nivo holesterola. On je istakao da je imao više energije nego pre.

- Bio sam mnogo bolje mentalno fokusiran dok sam bio na veganskoj dijeti. Nisam osećao onaj uobičajeni popodnevni pad energije - rekao je i dodao da je tako jer je promenio užinuu - umesto da između obroka gricka keks i čips kao inače, on je jeo voće i orašaste plodove.
Ros je eksperiment počeo s težinom od 79,4 kilograma i 13 odsto masnoće. Tokom eksperimenta dobio je 4,5 kilograma mišićne mase i 1,8 kilograma masnog tkiva. Na kraju je imao 85,7 kilograma, a masnoća se digla na 15 odsto. Nivo holesterola mu je ostao isti.
Conducting our 12 week vegan v meat study was a great way to find out how our bodies reacted to different foods. Minimising weight loss and maintaining our health on our expeditions is always the number one concern. From the results we then worked out which food groups are best for our bodies and best for our expeditions. Za razliku od drugih sličnih eksperimenata, ovaj nije trajao dugo, pa su blizanci istakli kako bi voleli da ga ponovo urade i da su spremni na izazov od šest meseci ili čak godinu dana kako bi rezultati bili još precizniji.
