Serbian police prevent sale of infected fruit
The police in southern Serbia arrested seven people, including a food safety inspector, involved in the sale of fruit infected with bacteria.
The seven were charged with taking and giving bribes to prevent the destruction of two tonnes of infected nectarines and allow their sale. The shipment of nectarines was exported to Russia but were turned back from the border of that country by food safety inspectors. A police press release said that the suspects moved the shipment of nectarines to the site where they were to be destroyed, give a 50 Euros bribe to the food safety inspector and another 100 Euros to a middle man.
