Serbian government earmarks money and planes for health fund

The Serbian government said on Thursday that it had earmarked 500 million Dinars for the treatment of patients with rare diseases and was putting two its aircraft at the disposal of patients in need of transport.

The government’s decision to amend the Health Care Fund budget for 2018 includes 3.6 billion Dinars (1 Euro – 119 Dinars) for medication, devices and sick leave, a press release said.

The government said it was setting aside two of its airplanes for patients >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << who need to be transported out of the country for treatment or returned home after treatment.

The government’s decision comes after a four year old boy was flown from his home town of Svilajnac by government helicopter to Belgrade to fly to Barcelona for cancer treatment only after a private non-profit fund managed to collect enough money for the trip and medical treatment.

“Two airplanes have been secured and they will be available constantly to the health care system for patients travelling abroad or people in need in the country,” Health Care Fund CEO Sanja Radojevic Skodric said, adding that the smaller aircraft can transport a patient and their family while the larger one can transport 12 people. Preparations are underway to bring two little girls home from Greece.
